Day 310 Readings
Torah: Chayei Sarah, 2nd Portion Bereshit (Genesis) 23:17-24:9
Genesis 24
A Bride for Isaac
1 Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things. 2 So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please, put your hand under my thigh, 3 and I will make you swear[a] by the Lord, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; 4 but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”
5 And the servant said to him, “Perhaps the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land. Must I take your son back to the land from which you came?”
6 But Abraham said to him, “Beware that you do not take my son back there. 7 The Lord God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house and from the land of my family, and who spoke to me and swore to me, saying, ‘To your [b]descendants I give this land,’ He will send His angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there. 8 And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there.” 9 So the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

1 Samuel 1:1-28
9 Then Hannah got up after eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on the seat by the doorpost of the [b]temple of the Lord. 10 She, [c]greatly distressed, prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. 11 And she made a vow and said, “Lord of armies, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your bond-servant and remember me, and not forget Your bond-servant, but will give Your bond-servant a [d]son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head.”
Samuel Is Born to Hannah
19 Then they got up early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord, and returned again to their house in Ramah. And Elkanah [h]had relations with Hannah his wife, and the Lord remembered her. 20 It came about [i]in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked for him of the Lord.”
21 Then the man Elkanah went up with all his household to offer to the Lord the yearly sacrifice and to pay his vow. 22 But Hannah did not go up, for she said to her husband, “I will not go until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, so that he may appear before the Lord and stay there for life.” 23 Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do [j]what seems best to you. Stay until you have weaned him; only may the Lord confirm His word.” So the woman stayed and nursed her son until she weaned him. 24 Now when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with a three-year-old bull, one ephah of flour, and a jug of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord in Shiloh, although the child was young. 25 Then they [k]slaughtered the bull, and brought the boy to Eli. 26 And she said, “Pardon me, my lord! As your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. 27 For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my request which I asked of Him. 28 So I have also [l]dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is [m]dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.
365 Daily Kingdom Living
The Power Of The Cross
Christ’s death on the cross was a once-and-for-all sacrifice for the sins of the world. As Jesus cried out from the cross "It is finished!" the work of redemption has been completed now, all who trust in Jesus and his sacrificial death have their sins forgiven, and they become a new creation with the Spirit of God filling them. They now have the hope and assurance of eternal life with God. What a blessing! And all through that one sacrifice
Prayer: Lord Jesus, we thank you for your sacrificial death on the cross of Calvary. We thank you that through your death, which was once for all, we have abundant life and eternal life. We thank you for the power of the cross. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
Scripture
Ezekiel 15
6 Therefore, this is what the Lord [f]God says: ‘As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem; 7 and I set My face against them. Though they have come out of the fire, yet the fire will consume them. Then you will know that I am the Lord, when I set My face against them. 8 So I will make the land desolate, because they have acted unfaithfully,’” declares the Lord God.
Ezekiel 16
6 “When I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you while you were in your blood, ‘Live!’ Yes, I said to you while you were in your blood, ‘Live!’ 7 I made you [j]very numerous, like plants of the field. Then you grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine jewelry; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare.
8 “Then I passed by you and saw you, and behold, [k]you were at the time for love; so I spread My [l]garment over you and covered your nakedness. I also swore an oath to you and entered into a covenant with you so that you became Mine,” declares the Lord God. 9 “Then I bathed you with water, washed off your blood from you, and anointed you with oil. 10 I also clothed you with colorfully woven cloth and put sandals of [m]fine leather on your feet; and I wrapped you with fine linen and covered you with silk. 11 I adorned you with jewelry, put bracelets on your wrists, and a necklace around your neck. 12 I also put a ring in your nose, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 So you were adorned with gold and silver, and your dress was of fine linen, silk, and colorfully woven cloth. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. 14 Then your fame spread among the nations on account of your beauty, for it was perfect because of My splendor which I bestowed on you,” declares the Lord God.
15 “But you trusted in your beauty and became unfaithful because of your fame, and you poured out your [n]obscene practices on every passer-by to whom it might be tempting. 16 You took some of your clothes, made for yourself [o]high places of various colors, and committed prostitution on them, which should not come about nor happen. 17 You also took your beautiful [p]jewels made of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images so that you might commit prostitution with them. 18 Then you took your colorfully woven cloth and covered them, and offered My oil and My incense before them. 19 Also My bread which I gave you, fine flour, oil, and honey with which I fed you, [q]you would offer before them for a soothing aroma; so it happened,” declares the Lord God. 20 “Furthermore, you took your sons and daughters whom you had borne to Me and sacrificed them to [r]idols to be devoured. Were your obscene practices a trivial matter? 21 You slaughtered My children and offered them to [s]idols by making them pass through the fire. 22 And besides all your abominations and obscene practices, you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare and squirming in your blood.
The Covenant Remembered
60 “Nevertheless, I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you. 61 Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both your older and your younger; and I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your covenant. 62 So I will establish My covenant with you, and you shall know that I am the Lord, 63 so that you may remember and be ashamed, and not open your mouth again because of your disgrace, when I have [ao]forgiven you for all that you have done,” the Lord God declares.
Hebrews 7:11-28
New American Standard Bible
11 So if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also. 13 For the one about whom these things are said belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord [a]was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses said nothing concerning priests. 15 And this is clearer still, if another priest arises according to the likeness of Melchizedek, 16 who has become a priest not on the basis of a law of [b]physical requirement, but according to the power of an indestructible life. 17 For it is attested of Him,
“You are a priest foreverAccording to the order of Melchizedek.”
18 For, on the one hand, there is the nullification of a former commandment because of its weakness and uselessness 19 (for the Law made nothing perfect); on the other hand, there is the introduction of a better hope, through which we come near to God. 20 And to the extent that it was not without an oath 21 (for they indeed became priests without an oath, but He with an oath through the One who said to Him,
“The Lord has swornAnd will not change His mind,‘You are a priest forever’”);
22 by the same extent Jesus also has become the [c]guarantee of a better covenant.
23 [d]The former priests, on the one hand, existed in greater numbers because they were prevented by death from continuing; 24 [e]Jesus, on the other hand, because He continues forever, holds His priesthood permanently. 25 Therefore He is also able to save [f]forever those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
26 For it was fitting for us to have such a high priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens; 27 who has no daily need, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because He did this once for all time when He offered up Himself. 28 For the Law appoints men as high priests who are weak, but the word of the oath, which came after the Law, appoints a Son, who has been made perfect forever.
Psalm 106:1-12
Israel’s Rebelliousness and the Lord’s Help.
1 [a]Praise [b]the Lord!Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His mercy is everlasting.2 Who can speak of the mighty deeds of the Lord, Or can proclaim all His praise? 3 How blessed are those who maintain [c]justice,[d]Who practice righteousness at all times!
4 Remember me, Lord, in Your favor [e]toward Your people.Visit me with Your salvation, 5 So that I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, That I may rejoice in the joy of Your nation, That I may boast with Your [f]inheritance.
6 We have sinned [g]like our fathers,We have gone astray, we have behaved wickedly.7 Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your [h]wonders; They did not remember [i]Your abundant kindnesses,But rebelled by the sea, at the [j]Red Sea.8 Nevertheless He saved them for the sake of His name,So that He might make His power known.9 So He rebuked the [k]Red Sea and it dried up,And He led them through the mighty waters, as through the wilderness.10 So He saved them from the [l]hand of one who hated them,And redeemed them from the [m]hand of the enemy.11 The waters covered their adversaries; Not one of them was left.12 Then they believed His words; They sang His praise.
Proverbs 27:4-6
New American Standard Bible
4 Wrath is fierce and anger is a flood,But who can stand before jealousy? 5 Better is open rebuke Than love that is concealed. 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend,But [a]deceitful are the kisses of an enemy.
