Day 287 Readings
BEREISHEET (In the Beginning)
Genesis 1:1–6:8; Isaiah 42:5–43:10
Torah: Bereishit, 7th Portion Bereshit (Genesis) 5:25-6:8
Genesis 5
28 Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son. 29 And he called his name Noah,[a] saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord has cursed.” 30 After he begot Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and had sons and daughters. 31 So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years; and he died.
32 And Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Genesis 6
Now it came about, when mankind began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of mankind were [a]beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not [b]remain with man forever, [c]because he is also flesh; [d]nevertheless his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The [e]Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of mankind, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.
5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of mankind was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of [f]their hearts was only evil continually. 6 So the Lord was sorry that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was grieved [g]in His heart. 7 Then the Lord said, “I will wipe out mankind whom I have created from the face of the land; mankind, and animals as well, and crawling things, and the birds of the sky. For I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Haftarah B’resheet: Yesha‘yahu (Isaiah) 42:5–43:10 (A);
Isaiah 42
9 Behold, the former things have come to pass,Now I declare new things;Before they sprout I proclaim them to you.”
10 Sing to the Lord a new song,Sing His praise from the end of the earth!You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it;You islands, and those who live on them.
16 I will lead those who are blind by a way they have not known, In paths they have not known I will guide them.
I will turn darkness into light before them And uneven land into plains.
These are the things I will do, And I will not leave them undone.”17 They will be turned back and be utterly put to shame,Who trust in [b]idols,Who say to cast metal images,“You are our gods.”
18 Hear, you who are deaf!And look, you who are blind, so that you may see.19 Who is blind but My servant,Or so deaf as My messenger whom I send?Who is so blind as one who is [c]at peace with Me,Or so blind as the servant of the Lord?20 You have seen many things, but you do not retain them;Your ears are open, but no one hears.
Isaiah 43
The Redeemer of Israel
1 But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,And He who formed you, O Israel:“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;I have called you by your name;You are Mine.2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,Nor shall the flame scorch you.3 For I am the Lord your God,The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;I gave Egypt for your ransom,Ethiopia and Seba in your place. 4 Since you were precious in My sight,You have been honored,And I have loved you;Therefore I will give men for you,And people for your life. 5 Fear not, for I am with you;I will bring your descendants from the east,And gather you from the west; 6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’And to the south, ‘Do not keep them back!’Bring My sons from afar,And My daughters from the ends of the earth—7 Everyone who is called by My name,Whom I have created for My glory;I have formed him, yes, I have made him.”
8 Bring out the blind people who have eyes,And the deaf who have ears. 9 Let all the nations be gathered together,And let the people be assembled.Who among them can declare this,And show us former things?Let them bring out their witnesses, that they may be justified;Or let them hear and say, “It is truth.” 10 “You are My witnesses,” says the Lord,“And My servant whom I have chosen,That you may know and believe Me,And understand that I am He.Before Me there was no God formed,Nor shall there be after Me.
B’rit Hadashah suggested readings for Parashah B’resheet:
Mattityahu (Matthew) 1:1–17;
1 The [a]record of the genealogy of [b]Jesus the [c]Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:
Matthew 19:3–9;
3 Some P’rushim came and tried to trap him by asking, “Is it permitted for a man to divorce his wife on any ground whatever?” 4 He replied, “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female,[a] 5 and that he said, ‘For this reason a man should leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two are to become one flesh’?[b] 6 Thus they are no longer two, but one. So then, no one should split apart what God has joined together.”
7 They said to him, “Then why did Moshe give the commandment that a man should hand his wife a get and divorce her?”[c] 8 He answered, “Moshe allowed you to divorce your wives because your hearts are so hardened. But this is not how it was at the beginning. 9 Now what I say to you is that whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of sexual immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery!”
Mark 10:1–12;
5 But Yeshua said to them, “He wrote this commandment for you because of your hardheartedness. 6 However, at the beginning of creation, God made them male and female.[b] 7 For this reason, a man should leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, 8 and the two are to become one flesh.[c] Thus they are no longer two, but one. 9 So then, no one should break apart what God has joined together.”
Luke 3:23–38;
23 Yeshua was about thirty years old when he began his public ministry. It was supposed that he was a son of Yosef who was of Eli,
Yochanan (John) 1:1–18;
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 [a]He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him [b]not even one thing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of mankind. 5 And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [c]grasp it.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
1 Corinthians 6:15–20;
16 Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.” 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the [b]sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a [c]temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from [d]God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 15:35–58;
36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies.
The Mystery of Resurrection
50 Now I say this, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does [g]the perishable inherit [h]the imperishable. 51 Behold, I am telling you a [i]mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised [j]imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this [k]perishable must put on [l]the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this [m]perishable puts on [n]the imperishable, and this mortal puts on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written: “Death has been swallowed up in victory. 55 Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be firm, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
Romans 5:12–21;
18 So then, as through one offense [h]the result was condemnation to all mankind, so also through one act of righteousness [i]the result was justification of life to all mankind. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous. 20 [j]The Law came in so that the offense would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, so also grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ephesians 5:21–32;
21 [a]and subject yourselves to one another in the [b]fear of Christ.
Marriage like Christ and the Church
22 Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church [c]in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are parts of His body. 31 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church.
Colossians 1:14–17;
14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
15 [a]He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation: 16 for [b]by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or dominions, or rulers, or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He [c]is before all things, and in Him all things [d]hold together.
1 Timothy 2:11–15;
11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first [a]created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman was [b]deceived and [c]became a wrongdoer. 15 But [d]women will be [e]preserved through [f]childbirth—if they continue in faith, love, and sanctity, with moderation.
Messianic Jews (Hebrews) 1:1–3;
1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 [a]in these last days has spoken to us [b]in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom He also made the [c]world. 3 [d]And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and [e]upholds all things by [f]the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Hebrews 3:7–4:11;
Be Faithful
7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion,In the day of trial in the wilderness,9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me,And saw My works forty years.10 Therefore I was angry with that generation,And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart,And they have not known My ways.’ 11 So I swore in My wrath,‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ”
The Danger of Unbelief
12 Take care, brothers and sisters, that there will not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart [b]that falls away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another every day, as long as it is still called “today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become partakers of Christ if we keep the beginning of our [c]commitment firm until the end, 15 while it is said,
“Today if you hear His voice,Do not harden your hearts, as [d]when they provoked Me.”
16 For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses? 17 And with whom was He angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose dead bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who were disobedient? 19 And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
Hebrews 4
1 Therefore, let us be terrified of the possibility that, even though the promise of entering his rest remains, any one of you might be judged to have fallen short of it; 2 for Good News has also been proclaimed to us, just as it was to them. But the message they heard didn’t do them any good, because those who heard it did not combine it with trust. 3 For it is we who have trusted who enter the rest.
It is just as he said,
“And in my anger, I sworethat they would not enter my rest.”[c]
He swore this even though his works have been in existence since the founding of the universe. 4 For there is a place where it is said, concerning the seventh day,
“And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.”[d]
5 And once more, our present text says,
“They will not enter my rest.”[e]
6 Therefore, since it still remains for some to enter it, and those who received the Good News earlier did not enter, 7 he again fixes a certain day, “Today,” saying through David, so long afterwards, in the text already given,
“Today, if you hear God’s voice, don’t harden your hearts.”[f]
8 For if Y’hoshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later of another “day.”
9 So there remains a Shabbat-keeping for God’s people. 10 For the one who has entered God’s rest has also rested from his own works, as God did from his. 11 Therefore, let us do our best to enter that rest; so that no one will fall short because of the same kind of disobedience.
Hebrews 11:1–7;
Complete Jewish Bible
11 Trusting[a] is being confident of what we hope for, convinced about things we do not see. 2 It was for this that Scripture attested the merit of the people of old.
3 By trusting, we understand that the universe was created through a spoken word of God, so that what is seen did not come into being out of existing phenomena.
5 By trusting, Hanokh was taken away from this life without seeing death — “He was not to be found, because God took him away” — for he has been attested as having been, prior to being taken away, well pleasing to God.[b] 6 And without trusting, it is impossible to be well pleasing to God, because whoever approaches him must trust that he does exist and that he becomes a Rewarder to those who seek him out.
2 Kefa (2 Peter) 3:3–14;
8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance.

Judges 4:1-24
” 8 Then Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go.” 9 She said, “I will certainly go with you; however, the fame shall not be yours on the journey that you are about to take, for the Lord will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” Then Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh. 10 Barak summoned Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and ten thousand men went up [e]with him; Deborah also went up with him.
23 So God subdued Jabin the king of Canaan on that day before the sons of Israel. 24 And the hand of the sons of Israel pressed harder and harder upon Jabin the king of Canaan, until they had eliminated Jabin the king of Canaan.
John 7:1-7
6 Then Jesus said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil. 8 You go up to this feast. I am not [b]yet going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come.” 9 When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.

Jehovah-Tsidkenu
What is the greatest miracle? To a paralyzed man, unable to walk for many years, being healed by Jesus Christ would be a great miracle. The Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, and so He said to the man, "your sins are forgiven.” God made Jesus who had no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. The greatest miracle is that all of our sin debts are paid in full and we can become righteous before God through Him.
Prayer: Thank you Jesus for your love and for bearing all of our sins. Thank you for showing us an example of Your righteousness so that we have a perfect spiritual model to follow. May we grow to be more like You and not just become a righteousness man in You. In the name of Jesus, I Pray, Amen.
Scripture
Jeremiah 23
29 “Is My word not like fire?” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer which shatters a rock? 30 Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who steal My words from each other. 31 Behold, I am against the prophets,” declares the Lord, “who [g]use their tongues and declare, ‘The Lord declares!’ 32 Behold, I am against those who have prophesied false dreams,” declares the Lord, “and reported them and led My people astray by their lies and reckless boasting; yet I did not send them nor command them, nor do they provide this people the slightest benefit,” declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 24
4 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 5 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel says: ‘Like these good figs, so I will regard as good the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans. 6 For I will set My eyes on them for good, and I will bring them back to this land; and I will build them up and not overthrow them, and I will plant them and not uproot them. 7 I will also give them a heart to know Me, for I am the Lord; and they will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me wholeheartedly.
Jeremiah 25
8 “Therefore this is what the Lord of armies says: ‘Because you have not obeyed My words, 9 behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these surrounding nations; and I will [d]completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and [e]hissing, and an everlasting place of ruins.
Babylon Will Be Judged
12 ‘Then it will be when seventy years are completed I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation,’ declares the Lord, ‘for their wrongdoing, and the land of the Chaldeans; and I will make it an everlasting desolation. 13 I will bring upon that land all My words which I have pronounced against it, all that is written in this book which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. 14 ([f]For many nations and great kings will make slaves of them, even them; and I will repay them according to their deeds and according to the work of their hands.)’”
2 Thessalonians 2
Stand Firm
13 But we should always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you [r]from the beginning for salvation [s]through sanctification [t]by the Spirit and faith in the truth. 14 It was for this He called you through our gospel, [u]that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold on to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter [v]from us.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, 17 comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.
Psalm 84
1 How lovely are Your dwelling places,Lord of armies!2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courtyards of the Lord;My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.3 The bird also has found a house,And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may put her young:Your altars, Lord of armies,My King and my God.4 Blessed are those who dwell in Your house!They are ever praising You. Selah
5 Blessed is the person whose strength is in You,In [b]whose heart are the roads to Zion!6 Passing through the Valley of [c]Baca they make it a [d]spring;The early rain also covers it with blessings.7 They go from strength to strength,[e]Every one of them appears before God in Zion.
8 Lord God of armies, hear my prayer;Listen, God of Jacob! Selah 9 See our shield, God,And look at the face of Your anointed.10 For a day in Your courtyards is better than a thousand elsewhere.I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my GodThan live in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;The Lord gives grace and glory;He withholds no good thing [f]from those who walk with integrity. 12 Lord of armies, Blessed is the person who trusts in You!
Proverbs 25:15
15 Through [a]patience a ruler may be persuaded, And a gentle tongue breaks bone.
