Ki Tavo, 2nd Portion Devarim (Deuteronomy) 26:12-26:15
(ii) 12 “After you have separated a tenth of the crops yielded in the third year, the year of separating a tenth, and have given it to the Levi, the foreigner, the orphan and the widow, so that they can have enough food to satisfy them while staying with you; 13 you are to say, in the presence of Adonai your God, ‘I have rid my house of the things set aside for God and given them to the Levi, the foreigner, the orphan and the widow, in keeping with every one of the mitzvot you gave me. I haven’t disobeyed any of your mitzvot or forgotten them.
14 I haven’t eaten any of this food when mourning, I haven’t put any of it aside when unclean, nor have I given any of it for the dead. I have listened to what Adonai my God has said, and I have done everything you ordered me to do. 15 Look out from your holy dwelling-place, from heaven; and bless your people Isra’el and the land you gave us, as you swore to our ancestors, a land flowing with milk and honey.’

Deuteronomy 8
1 “All the commandments that I am commanding you today you shall be careful to do, so that you may live and increase, and go in and take possession of the land which the Lord swore to give to your forefathers. 2 And you shall remember all the way which the Lord your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years, in order to humble you, putting you to the test, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. 3 And He humbled you and let you go hungry, and fed you with the manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, in order to make you [a]understand that man shall not live on bread alone, but man shall live on everything that comes out of the mouth of the Lord.
4 Your clothing did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. 5 So you are to know in your heart that the Lord your God was disciplining you just as a man disciplines his son. 6 Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to [b]fear Him. 7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of streams of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in valleys and hills; 8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines, fig trees, and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; 9 a land where you will eat food without shortage, in which you will not lack anything; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper.
16 In the wilderness it was He who fed you manna which your fathers did not know, in order to humble you and in order to put you to the test, to do good for you [e]in the end. 17 Otherwise, you may say in your heart, ‘My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’
Deuteronomy 9
25 “So I fell down before the Lord for the forty days and nights, which I [p]did because the Lord said He would destroy you. 26 And I prayed to the Lord and said, ‘Lord God, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand! 27 Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not turn Your attention to the stubbornness of this people, or to their wickedness, or their sin. 28 Otherwise, the people of the land from which You brought us will say, “Since the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which He had [q]promised them, and since He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness!” 29 Yet they are Your people, and Your inheritance, whom You brought out by Your great power and Your outstretched arm.’
Deuteronomy 10
8 At that time the Lord singled out the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to serve Him and to bless in His name, until this day. 9 Therefore, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance with his brothers; the Lord is his inheritance, just as the Lord your God spoke to him.)
10 “I, moreover, stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights like the first time, and the Lord listened to me that time also; the Lord was not willing to destroy you. 11 Then the Lord said to me, ‘Arise, proceed on your journey ahead of the people, so that they may go in and take possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.’

Pour It Out
In the Hebrew manuscripts Psalms 42 and 43 constitute one psalm. From these passages can you hear the cry of the writer's soul? His soul is downcast, thirsty, taunted, forgotten, disturbed, rejected, and oppressed. Ever feel one of these emotions at least one time? The Psalmist pours it out to his Saviour and his God by claiming "...for yet I will praise Him." Don't be surprised when we praise our Saviour and our God and see His love and grace granted towards us.
Prayer: Glory and Power and Praise be to you, O Lord, Maker of Heaven and Earth! I praise you because you are God Almighty. You reign forever and ever. I praise you for salvation, love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness - forevermore! I praise you because you will take care of me in my distress. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Job 28
The Search for Wisdom Is Harder
12 “But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding?13 Mankind does not know its value,Nor is it found in the land of the living.14 The ocean depth says, ‘It is not in me’;And the sea says, ‘It is not with me.’15 Pure gold cannot be given in exchange for it,Nor can silver be weighed as its price.16 It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir,In precious onyx, or sapphire.17 Gold or glass cannot equal it,Nor can it be exchanged for articles of pure gold.18 Coral and crystal are not to be mentioned; And the acquisition of wisdom is more valuable than pearls.19 The topaz of [j]Cush cannot equal it,Nor can it be valued in pure gold.20 Where then does wisdom come from? And where is this place of understanding?21 It is hidden from the eyes of every living creature,And concealed from the birds of the sky.22 [k]Abaddon and Death say,‘With our ears we have heard a report of it.’
23 “God understands its way,And He knows its place.24 For He looks to the ends of the earth; He sees everything under the heavens.
Job 29
11 Forwhenan ear heard, it called me blessed, And when an eye saw, it testified in support of me,
12 Because I savedthe poor who cried for help, And theorphan who had no helper.
13 The blessing of the one whowas about to perish came upon me, And I made thewidow’s heart sing for joy.
14 Iput on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a headband.
15 I waseyes to those who were blind, And feet to those who[d]could not walk.
16 I was a father tothe poor, And I investigated the case which I did not know.
17 Ibroke the jaws of the wicked And rescued the prey from his teeth.
18 Then I[e]thought, ‘I will die with my[f]family, And I will multiplymydays as the sand.
19 Myroot is spread out to the waters, Anddew lies on my branch all night.
20 My glory isevernew with me, And mybow is renewed in my hand.’
Job 30
11 For God has loosened my bowstring and humbled me; they throw off restraint in my presence.
12 At my right the street urchins attack, pushing me from place to place,
besieging me with their ways of destruction,
24 “Surely [God] wouldn’t strike at a ruin, if in one’s calamity one cried out to him for help.
25 Didn’t I weep for those who were in trouble? Didn’t I grieve for the needy?
26 Yet when I hoped for good, what came was bad; when I expected light, what came was darkness.
27 My insides are in turmoil; they can’t find rest; days of misery confront me.
28 I go about in sunless gloom, I rise in the assembly and cry for help.
29 I have become a brother to jackals and a companion of ostriches.
30 My skin is black and falling off me, and my bones are burning with heat.
31 So my lyre is tuned for mourning, my pipe to the voice of those who weep.
2 Corinthians 2
14 But thanks be to God, who alwaysleads us in triumph in Christ, and through us reveals thefragrance of theknowledge of Him in every place.15 For we are afragrance of Christ to God amongthose who are being saved and among those who are perishing:16 to the one an[d]aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who isadequate for these things?17 For we are not like the many,[e]peddling the word of God, butas from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christin the sight of God.

BOOK 2
Thirsting for God in Trouble and Exile.
For the music director. A [a]Maskil of the sons of Korah.
1 As the deer [b]pants for the water brooks,So my soul [c]pants for You, God.2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God;When shall I come and [d]appear before God?3 My tears have been my food day and night,While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”4 I remember these things and pour out my soul within me.For I used to go over with the multitude and walk them to the house of God,With a voice of joy and thanksgiving, a multitude celebrating a festival.
5 Why are you [e]in despair, my soul? And why are you restless within me?Wait for God, for I will [f]again praise [g]HimFor the [h]help of His [i]presence, my God.6 My soul is [j]in despair within me;Therefore I remember You from the land of the JordanAnd the [k]peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.7 Deep calls to deep at the sound of Your waterfalls; All Your breakers and Your waves have passed over me.8 The Lord will send His goodness in the daytime; And His song will be with me in the night,A prayer to the God of my life.
9 I will say to God my rock, “Why have You forgotten me?Why do I go about mourning [l]because of the oppression of the enemy?”10 As a shattering of my bones, my adversaries taunt me,While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”11 Why are you [m]in despair, my soul? And why are you restless within me?Wait for God, for I will again praise [n]HimFor the [o]help of His presence, my God.
