Shabbat Ki Tavo (When You Enter)

Deuteronomy 26:1–29:9 (8); Isaiah 60:1–22

“When you have entered [ki tavo] the land the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance ...  take some of the firstfruits of all that you produce from the soil of the land the Lord your God is giving you and put them in a basket.  Then go to the place the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for His name.”  (Deuteronomy 26:1–2)

Ki Tavo, 7th Portion Devarim (Deuteronomy) 29:1-8

2 Moses called together all the people of Israel and said to them, “You saw for yourselves what the Lord did to the king of Egypt, to his officials, and to his entire country. 3 You saw the terrible plagues, the miracles, and the great wonders that the Lord performed. 4 But to this very day he has not let you understand what you have experienced.

Haftarah Ki Tavo: Yesha‘yahu (Isaiah) 60:1–22

4 Raise your eyes and look around: they are all assembling and coming to you;

your sons are coming from far off, your daughters being carried on their nurses’ hips.

5 Then you will see and be radiant, your heart will throb and swell with delight;

for the riches of the seas will be brought to you, the wealth of nations will come to you.

6 Caravans of camels will cover your land, young camels from Midyan and ‘Eifah,

10 “Foreigners will build up your walls, And theirkings will serve you;

For in Mywrath I struck you, And in My favor I have had compassion on you.

11 Yourgates will be open continually; They will not be closed day or night,

So thatpeoplemaybring you the wealth of the nations, Withtheir kings led in procession.

all of them coming from Sh’va, bringing gold and frankincense, and proclaiming the praises ofAdonai. 12 For the nation or kingdom that won’t serve you will perish; yes, those nations will be utterly destroyed.

19 No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor will the moon give you light for brightness;But you will have the Lord as an everlasting light,And your God as your [e]glory.20 Your sun will no longer set,Nor will your moon wane;For you will have the Lord as an everlasting light,And the days of your mourning will be over.21 Then all your people will be righteous;They will possess the land forever,The branch of My planting,The work of My hands,That I may be glorified. 22 The smallest one will become a thousand,And the least one a mighty nation.I, the Lord, will bring it about quickly in its time.”

5 It’s the same way in the present age: there is a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 (Now if it is by grace, it is accordingly not based on legalistic works; if it were otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.) 7 What follows is that Isra’el has not attained the goal for which she is striving. The ones chosen have obtained it, but the rest have been made stonelike, 8 just as the Tanakh says,

“God has given them a spirit of dullness —eyes that do not seeand ears that do not hear,right down to the present day.”

11 “In that case, I say, isn’t it that they have stumbled with the result that they have permanently fallen away?” Heaven forbid! Quite the contrary, it is by means of their stumbling that the deliverance has come to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy.[g] 12 Moreover, if their stumbling is bringing riches to the world — that is, if Isra’el’s being placed temporarily in a condition less favored than that of the Gentiles is bringing riches to the latter — how much greater riches will Isra’el in its fullness bring them!

1 Peter 2:1–25

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

13 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, 14 or to governors as sent [q]by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right. 15 For [r]such is the will of God, that by doing right you silence the ignorance of foolish people. 16 Act as free people, and [s]do not use your freedom as a [t]covering for evil, but use it as bond-servants of God. 17 Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the [u]king.

18 Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are [v]harsh. 19 For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person endures [w]grief when suffering unjustly. 20 For what credit is there if, when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience? But if when you do what is right and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this finds favor with God.

Christ Is Our Example

21 For you have been called for this purpose, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you would follow in His steps, 22 He who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 23 [x]and while being abusively insulted, He did not insult in return; while suffering, He did not threaten, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 and He Himself [y]brought our sins in His body up on the [z]cross, so that we might die to [aa]sin and live for righteousness; by His [ab]wounds you were healed. 25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and [ac]Guardian of your souls.

21 “You shall not plant for yourself an [m]Asherah of any kind of tree beside the altar of the Lord your God, which you shall make for yourself. 22 And you shall not set up for yourself a memorial stone, which the Lord your God hates.

Deuteronomy 17

8 “If a case is too difficult for you to decide, between [v]one kind of homicide or another, between [w]one kind of lawsuit or another, and between [x]one kind of assault or another, that are cases of dispute in your [y]courts, then you shall arise and go up to the place which the Lord your God chooses. 9 So you shall come to the Levitical priests or the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall inquire of them and they will declare to you the [z]verdict. 10 Then you shall act in accordance with the [aa]terms of the verdict which they declare to you from that place which the Lord chooses; and you shall be careful to act in accordance with everything that they instruct you to do.

Romans 15

1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not just please ourselves. 2 Each of us is to please his neighbor [a]for his good, to his edification. 3 For even Christ did not please Himself, but as it is written: “The taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on Me.” 4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5 Now may the God [b]who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one purpose and one [c]voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

12 Again Isaiah says,

“There shall come the root of Jesse,And He who arises to rule over the Gentiles,In Him will the Gentiles hope.”

13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

13 I determined that I would examine and study all the things that are done in this world.

God has laid a miserable fate upon us. 14 I have seen everything done in this world, and I tell you, it is all useless. It is like chasing the wind. 15 You can't straighten out what is crooked; you can't count things that aren't there.

Ecclesiastes 2

17 Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

24 The best thing we can do is eat and drink and enjoy what we have earned. And yet, I realized that even this comes from God. 25 How else could you have anything to eat or enjoy yourself at all? 26 God gives wisdom, knowledge, and happiness to those who please him, but he makes sinners work, earning and saving, so that what they get can be given to those who please him. It is all useless. It is like chasing the wind.

Ecclesiastes 3

1 Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.

9 What do we gain from all our work? 10 I know the heavy burdens that God has laid on us. 11 He has set the right time for everything. He has given us a desire to know the future, but never gives us the satisfaction of fully understanding what he does. 12 So I realized that all we can do is be happy and do the best we can while we are still alive. 13 All of us should eat and drink and enjoy what we have worked for. It is God's gift.

14 I know that everything God does will last forever. You can't add anything to it or take anything away from it. And one thing God does is to make us stand in awe of him. 15 Whatever happens or can happen has already happened before. God makes the same thing happen again and again.

Ecclesiastes 4

9 Two are better off than one, because together they can work more effectively. 10 If one of them falls down, the other can help him up. But if someone is alone and falls, it's just too bad, because there is no one to help him. 11 If it is cold, two can sleep together and stay warm, but how can you keep warm by yourself 12 Two people can resist an attack that would defeat one person alone. A rope made of three cords is hard to break.

Ecclesiastes 5

18 Here is what I have found out: the best thing we can do is eat and drink and enjoy what we have worked for during the short life that God has given us; this is our fate. 19 If God gives us wealth and property and lets us enjoy them, we should be grateful and enjoy what we have worked for. It is a gift from God. 20 Since God has allowed us to be happy, we will not worry too much about how short life is.

2 Corinthians 6:1-13

1 We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. 2 For He says:

“In an acceptable time I have heard you,And in the day of salvation I have helped you.”

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Great and Glorious are YOU O GOD, Blessed are YOU O HOLY ONE of Israel and KING of the Universe!!! Toda for this blessed Shabbat for waking me early and for successfully O GOD, enabling me to finish my 3 day fast!!! All glory belongs to YOU ABBA Almighty! O LORD today I will not rest like I should, but I will be attending a training in Church for future work of service. O GOD, toda raba for this opportunity to learn. I pray O GOD that YOU continue to enable me to live each day one at a time for YOU and YOUR purposes! Please AVI, enable me to fix my eyes on YOU and never to be distracted again. I praise YOU and amazed at YOU for giving me the song yesterday "Overcome" which goes "I will not be moved though the earth give way for the RISEN ONE has OVERCOME" and today YOU gave me the confirmation of YOUR WORD in Psalm 46:2 "Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed" I do not like defeat but in fearing I am losing and I do not like losing, but I need to endure and in enduring I am winning please O GOD strengthen me day by day and help me to just keep trusting YOU in spite of the bad times and the troubles YOU allow to crash on me. Please O GOD My Papa, make me strong and victorious because I belong to YOU! And this morning I praise YOU also for giving me the word "For you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation...." and YOU have confirmed this to me again by YOUR WORD today that I am reading in 1 Peter 2:9 "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; " O Hallelujah! How Wonderful it is to receive in the Spirit and then get confirmation about it in YOUR WORD! How wonderful! It's like YOU have brought me back to life. Please My KING, live through me. Live!!! Let YOUR SPIRIT be revived in me!
