Day 238 Readings
KI TETZE (When You Go Out)
Deuteronomy 21:10–25:19; Isaiah 54:1–10
“When you go forth [ki tetze] to battle against your enemies, and the Lord your God delivers them into your hands” (Deuteronomy 21:10)
Ki Teitzei, 7th Portion Devarim (Deuteronomy) 24:14-25:19
Deuteronomy 24
(vii) 14 “You are not to exploit a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether one of your brothers or a foreigner living in your land in your town. 15 You are to pay him his wages the day he earns them, before sunset; for he is poor and looks forward to being paid. Otherwise he will cry out against you to Adonai, and it will be your sin.
16 “Fathers are not to be executed for the children, nor are children to be executed for the fathers; every person will be executed for his own sin.
Deuteronomy 25
1 “If people have a dispute, seek its resolution in court, and the judges render a decision in favor of the righteous one and condemning the wicked one;
4 “You are not to muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain. (let the Ox eat while working)
(Maftir) 17 “Remember what ‘Amalek did to you on the road as you were coming out of Egypt, 18 how he met you by the road, attacked those in the rear, those who were exhausted and straggling behind when you were tired and weary. He did not fear God. 19 Therefore, when Adonai your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies in the land Adonai your God is giving you as your inheritance to possess, you are to blot out all memory of ‘Amalek from under heaven. Don’t forget!
Haftarah Ki Tetze: Yesha‘yahu (Isaiah) 54:1–10 [Messianic adaptation: commence the reading at 52:13]
Isaiah 54 CJB
1 “Sing, barren woman who has never had a child! Burst into song, shout for joy, you who have never been in labor!
For the deserted wife will have more children than the woman who is living with her husband,” says Adonai.
2 Enlarge the space for your tent, extend the curtains of your dwelling;
do not hold back, lengthen your cords, make your tent pegs firm.
3 For you will spread out to the right and the left, your descendants will possess the nations
and inhabit the desolated cities.
4 Don’t be afraid, for you won’t be ashamed; don’t be discouraged, for you won’t be disgraced.
You will forget the shame of your youth, no longer remember the dishonor of being widowed.
5 For your husband is your Maker, Adonai-Tzva’ot is his name. The Holy One of Isra’el is your Redeemer.
He will be called the God of all the earth.
6 For Adonai has called you back like a wife abandoned and grief-stricken;
“A wife married in her youth cannot be rejected,” says your God.
7 “Briefly I abandoned you, but with great compassion I am taking you back.
8 I was angry for a moment and hid my face from you;
but with everlasting grace I will have compassion on you,” says Adonai your Redeemer.
9 “For me this is like Noach’s flood. Just as I swore that no flood like Noach’s would ever again cover the earth,
so now I swear that never again will I be angry with you or rebuke you.
10 For the mountains may leave and the hills be removed, but my grace will never leave you,
and my covenant of peace will not be removed,” says Adonai, who has compassion on you.
B’rit Hadashah suggested readings for Parashah Ki Tetze: Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:31–32; 19:3–12; 22:23–32; Mark 10:2–12; 12:18–27; Luke 20:27–38; 1 Corinthians 9:4–18; Galatians 3:9–14; 1 Timothy 5:17–18; 1 Corinthians 5:1–5
Matthew 5
32 but I say to you that everyone who [a]divorces his wife, except for the reason of sexual immorality, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a [b]divorced woman commits adultery.
Matthew 19
4 He replied, “Haven’t you read that at the beginning the Creator made them male and female,[a] 5 and that he said, ‘For this reason a man should leave his father and mother and be united with his wife, and the two are to become one flesh’?[b] 6 Thus they are no longer two, but one. So then, no one should split apart what God has joined together.”
Matthew 22
30 For in the Resurrection, neither men nor women will marry; rather, they will be like angels in heaven. 31 And as for whether the dead are resurrected, haven’t you read what God said to you, 32 ‘I am the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz’chak and the God of Ya‘akov’?[b] He is God not of the dead but of the living!”
Mark 10
6 But from the beginning of creation, God created them male and female. 7 For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother[e], 8 and the two shall become one flesh; so they are no longer two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore, what God has joined together, no person is to separate.”
Mark 12
24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not [e]understand the Scriptures nor the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Luke 20
34 Yeshua said to them, “In this age, men and women marry; 35 but those judged worthy of the age to come, and of resurrection from the dead, do not get married, 36 because they can no longer die. Being children of the Resurrection, they are like angels; indeed, they are children of God.
37 “But even Moshe showed that the dead are raised; for in the passage about the bush, he calls Adonai ‘the God of Avraham, the God of Yitz’chak and the God of Ya‘akov.’[b] 38 Now he is not God of the dead, but of the living — to him all are alive.”
1 Corinthians 9:4–18
8 What I am saying is not based merely on human authority, because the Torah says the same thing — 9 for in the Torah of Moshe it is written, “You are not to put a muzzle on an ox when it is treading out the grain.”[a] If God is concerned about cattle, 10 all the more does he say this for our sakes. Yes, it was written for us, meaning that he who plows and he who threshes should work expecting to get a share of the crop.
Galatians 3:9–14
9 So then, those who rely on trusting and being faithful are blessed along with Avraham, who trusted and was faithful.11 Now it is evident that no one comes to be declared righteous by God through legalism, since “The person who is righteous will attain life by trusting and being faithful.”11 Now, that no one is justified [c]by [d]the Law before God is evident; for, “[e]the righteous one will live by faith.” 12 [f]However, the Law is not [g]of faith; on the contrary, “The person who performs [h]them will live by [i]them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a [j]tree”— 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham would come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
1 Timothy 5:17–18;
17 The leaders who lead well should be considered worthy of double honor, especially those working hard at communicating the Word and at teaching. 18 For the Tanakh says, “You are not to muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain,”[a] in other words, “The worker deserves his wages.”
1 Corinthians 5:1–5
4 In the name of the Lord Yeshua, when you are assembled, with me present spiritually and the power of our Lord Yeshua among us, 5 hand over such a person to the Adversary for his old nature to be destroyed, so that his spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord.
Bible Study Together
Psalm 19
(0) For the leader. A psalm of David:
2 (1) The heavens declare the glory of God,the dome of the sky speaks the work of his hands.3 (2) Every day it utters speech,every night it reveals knowledge.4 (3) Without speech, without a word,without their voices being heard,5 (4) their line goes out through all the earthand their words to the end of the world.
In them he places a tent for the sun,6 (5) which comes out like a bridegroom from the bridal chamber,with delight like an athlete to run his race.7 (6) It rises at one side of the sky,circles around to the other side,and nothing escapes its heat.
8 (7) The Torah of Adonai is perfect,restoring the inner person.The instruction of Adonai is sure,making wise the thoughtless.9 (8) The precepts of Adonai are right,rejoicing the heart.The mitzvah of Adonai is pure,enlightening the eyes.10 (9) The fear of Adonai is clean,enduring forever.The rulings of Adonai are true,they are righteous altogether,11 (10) more desirable than gold,than much fine gold,also sweeter than honeyor drippings from the honeycomb.12 (11) Through them your servant is warned;in obeying them there is great reward.
13 (12) Who can discern unintentional sins?Cleanse me from hidden faults.14 (13) Also keep your servant from presumptuous sins,so that they won’t control me.Then I will be blamelessand free of great offense.
15 (14) May the words of my mouthand the thoughts of my heartbe acceptable in your presence,Adonai, my Rock and Redeemer.
Deuteronomy 9:1-22
1 “Hear, Israel! You are crossing the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than you, cities that are great and fortified to heaven,
3 So be aware today that it is the Lord your God who is crossing over ahead of you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so that you may drive them out and eliminate them quickly, just as the Lord has spoken to you
Romans 9
30 So, what are we to say? This: that Gentiles, even though they were not striving for righteousness, have obtained righteousness; but it is a righteousness grounded in trusting!
Romans 10
9 that if you acknowledge publicly with your mouth that Yeshua is Lord and trust in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be delivered. 10 For with the heart one goes on trusting and thus continues toward righteousness, while with the mouth one keeps on making public acknowledgement and thus continues toward deliverance. 11 For the passage quoted says that everyone who rests his trust on him will not be humiliated.[e] 12 That means that there is no difference between Jew and Gentile — Adonai is the same for everyone, rich toward everyone who calls on him, 13 since everyone who calls on the name of Adonai will be delivered.[f]
19 “But, I say, isn’t it rather that Isra’el didn’t understand?”
“I will provoke you to jealousy over a non-nation,over a nation void of understanding I will make you angry.”[j]
Day 365 Kingdom Living A Journey With Christ
What will we see on that day when we stand at the mountaintop to look back on our deep valley? Many painful moments but also equal measure of comfort in Christ. In all, we shall see that God’s grace abounds in our afflictions. Know this – Wherever you are, you are onto something good.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for every suffering and every comfort in Christ. Let me not run away from the refining process that suffering can bring. I only ask that Lord, in my times of sorrow and grief, You help me not become angry, bitter and disappointed but to handle the situation with Your gentle grace and kind mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
