Covenant with Abimelech
22 Now it came about at that time that Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, spoke to Abraham, saying, “God is with you in all that you do; 23 so now, swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my descendants, but according to the kindness that I have shown to you, you shall show to me and to the land in which you have resided.” 24 Abraham said, “I swear it.” 25 But Abraham [a]complained to Abimelech because of the well of water which the servants of Abimelech had seized. 26 And Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this thing; you did not tell me, nor did I hear of it [b]until today.”
27 So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant. 28 But Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves. 29 Then Abimelech said to Abraham, “What do these seven ewe lambs mean, which you have set by themselves?” 30 He said, “You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand so that it may be a witness for me, that I dug this well.” 31 Therefore he called that place [c]Beersheba, because there the two of them took an oath. 32 So they made a covenant at Beersheba; and Abimelech and Phicol, the commander of his army, got up and returned to the land of the Philistines. 33 Abraham planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God. 34 And Abraham resided in the land of the Philistines for many days.

Ruth 3
Boaz Will Redeem Ruth
1 Then her mother-in-law Naomi said to her, “My daughter, shall I not seek [a]security for you, that it may go well for you? 2 Now then, is Boaz not our relative, with whose young women you were? Behold, he is winnowing barley at the threshing floor tonight. 3 Wash yourself therefore, and anoint yourself, and put on your best clothes, and go down to the threshing floor; but do not reveal yourself to the man until he has finished eating and drinking. 4 And it shall be when he lies down, that you shall [b]take notice of the place where he lies, and you shall go and uncover his feet and lie down; then he will tell you what you should do.” 5 And she said to her, “All that you say I will do.”
6 So she went down to the threshing floor and did according to all that her mother-in-law had commanded her. 7 When Boaz had eaten and drunk and his heart was cheerful, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of grain; and she came secretly, and uncovered his feet and lay down. 8 And it happened in the middle of the night that the man was startled and [c]bent forward; and behold, a woman was lying at his feet. 9 So he said, “Who are you?” And she answered, “I am Ruth your slave. Now spread your garment over your slave, for you are a redeemer.” 10 Then he said, “May you be blessed of the Lord, my daughter. You have shown your last kindness to be better than the first, by not going after young men, whether poor or rich. 11 So now, my daughter, do not fear. I will do for you whatever you say, for all [d]my people in the city know that you are a woman of excellence. 12 But now, although it is true that I am a redeemer, yet there is also a redeemer more closely related than I. 13 Remain this night, and when morning comes, if he will [e]redeem you, good; let him redeem you. But if he does not wish to [f]redeem you, then I will redeem you, as the Lord lives. Lie down until morning.”
14 So she lay at his feet until morning, and got up before one person could recognize another; and he said, “Do not let it be known that the woman came to the threshing floor.” 15 Again he said, “Give me the shawl that is on you and hold it.” So she held it, and he measured six measures of barley and laid it on her. Then [g]she went into the city. 16 When she came to her mother-in-law, she said, “[h]How did it go, my daughter?” And she told her all that the man had done for her. 17 She also said, “These six measures of barley he gave to me, for he said, ‘Do not go to your mother-in-law empty-handed.’” 18 Then she said, “Wait, my daughter, until you know how the matter [i]turns out; for the man will not rest until he has [j]settled it today.”
Ruth 4
1 Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there, and behold, the redeemer of whom Boaz spoke was passing by, so he said, “Come over here, [a]friend, sit down here.” And he came over and sat down. 2 Then he took ten men of the elders of the city and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down. 3 And he said to the redeemer, “Naomi, who has returned from the land of Moab, has to sell the plot of land which belonged to our brother Elimelech. 4 So I thought that I would [b]inform you, saying, ‘Buy it before those who are sitting here, and before the elders of my people. If you will redeem it, redeem it; but if [c]not, tell me so that I may know; for there is no one except you to redeem it, and I am after you.’”And he said, “I will redeem it.” 5 Then Boaz said, “On the day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also acquire Ruth the Moabitess, the widow of the deceased, in order to raise up the name of the deceased on his inheritance.” 6 Then the redeemer said, “I cannot redeem it for myself, otherwise I would [d]jeopardize my own inheritance. Redeem it for yourself; you may have my right of redemption, since I cannot redeem it.”
Luke 11:33-54
New American Standard Bible
33 “No one lights a lamp and puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is [a]clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it is [b]bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 So watch out that the light in you is not darkness. 36 Therefore if your whole body is full of light, without any dark part, it will be wholly illuminated, as when the lamp illuminates you with its light.”
Woes upon the Pharisees
37 Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee *asked Him to have lunch with him; and He went in and reclined at the table. 38 When the Pharisee saw this, he was surprised that Jesus had not first [c]ceremonially washed before the [d]meal. 39 But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the dish; but your inside is full of greed and wickedness. 40 You foolish ones, did He who made the outside not make the inside also? 41 But give that which is within as a charitable gift, and [e]then all things are clean for you.
42 “But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithes of mint, rue, and every kind of garden herb, and yet you [f]ignore justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others. 43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the seat of honor in the synagogues and personal greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you! For you are like [g]unseen tombs, and the people who walk over them are unaware of it.”
45 One of the [h]lawyers *said to Him in reply, “Teacher, when You say these things, You insult us too.” 46 But He said, “Woe to you lawyers as well! For you load people with burdens that are hard to bear, [i]while you yourselves will not even [j]touch the burdens with one of your fingers. 47 Woe to you! For you build the [k]tombs of the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them. 48 So you are witnesses and you approve of the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you build their [l]tombs. 49 For this reason also, the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill, and some they will [m]persecute, 50 so that the blood of all the prophets, shed since the foundation of the world, may be charged [n]against this generation, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged [o]against this generation.’ 52 Woe to you [p]lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves did not enter, and you hindered those who were entering.”
53 When He left that place, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be very hostile and to interrogate Him about many subjects, 54 plotting against Him to catch [q]Him in something He might say.
365 Daily Kingdom Living
Grow Up!
A baby drinking milk from a bottle is natural but if a grown adult is still drinking milk from a bottle for his food, there is something wrong with the adult. And spiritually, this was the problem that the letter to the Hebrews identifies that the Christians, the letter is addressed to, were still on spiritual milk and not matured to spiritual solid food. And what is the criteria for moving to spiritual solid food? The ability to discern right from wrong, good from evil. Inability to do this means accepting the wrong as right and living a compromised life. What about us? Are we ready for solid food or are we still on milk?
Prayer: Lord God, please give me the spiritual insight to understand your word clearly and know and accept your standards of right and wrong and of good and evil. Help me grow in discernment of good and evil and therefore in spiritual maturity. And let me keep away from evil and be obedient to the good. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Scripture
Ezekiel 7
26 Disaster will come upon disaster and rumor will be added to rumor; then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but the Law will be lost from the priest, and counsel from the elders. 27 The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed in horror, and the hands of the people of the land will [v]tremble. I will deal with them because of their conduct, and by their judgments I will judge them. And they will know that I am the Lord.’”
Ezekiel 8
1 Now it came about in the sixth year, on the fifth day of the sixth month, as I was sitting in my house with the elders of Judah sitting before me, that the hand of the Lord [w]God fell upon me there. 2 Then I looked, and behold, something like the appearance of [x]a man; from His waist and downward there was the appearance of fire, and from His waist and upward like the appearance of a glow, like gleaming [y]metal. 3 And He extended the form of a hand and took me by the hair of my head; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the [z]north gate of the inner courtyard, where the seat of the idol of jealousy, which provokes to jealousy, was located. 4 And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the appearance which I saw in the plain.
Ezekiel 9
3 Then the glory of the God of Israel ascended from the cherub on which it had been, to the threshold of the [af]temple. And He called to the man clothed in linen at whose waist was the scribe’s kit. 4 And the Lord said to him, “Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and make a mark on the foreheads of the people who groan and sigh over all the abominations which are being committed in its midst.” 5 But to the others He said in my [ag]presence, “Go through the city after him and strike; do not let your eye have pity and do not spare. 6 [ah]Utterly kill old men, young men, female virgins, little children, and women, but do not touch any person on whom is the mark; and you shall start from My sanctuary.”
Hebrews 5
The Perfect High Priest
1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of people in things pertaining to God, in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins; 2 [a]he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, since he himself also is [b]clothed in weakness; 3 and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices for sins for himself, as well as for the people. 4 And no one takes the honor for himself, but receives it when he is called by God, just as Aaron also was.
5 So too Christ did not glorify Himself in becoming a high priest, but it was He who said to Him,
“You are My Son,Today I have fathered You”;
6 just as He also says in another passage,
“You are a priest foreverAccording to the order of Melchizedek.”
7 In the days of [c]His humanity, [d]He offered up both prayers and pleas with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him [e]from death, and He [f]was heard because of His devout behavior. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him, 10 being designated by God as High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
11 Concerning [g]him we have much to say, and it is difficult to explain, since you have become [h]poor listeners. 12 For though [i]by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the [j]elementary principles of the actual words of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to distinguish between good and evil.
Psalm 105:1-15
The Lord’s Wonderful Works in Behalf of Israel.
1 Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His name;Make His deeds known among the peoples.2 Sing to Him, sing praises to Him;[a]Tell of all His [b]wonders. 3 Boast in His holy name;May the heart of those who seek the Lord be joyful. 4 Seek the Lord and His strength;Seek His face continually. 5 Remember His [c]wonders which He has done,His marvels and the judgments [d]spoken by His mouth,6 You [e]descendants of Abraham, His servant,You sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! 7 He is the Lord our God;His judgments are in all the earth.
8 He has remembered His covenant forever,The word which He commanded to a thousand generations,9 The covenant which He made with Abraham,And His oath to Isaac.10 Then He confirmed it to Jacob as a statute,To Israel as an everlasting covenant,11 Saying, “To you I will give the land of CanaanAs the [f]portion of your inheritance,”12 When they were only a few people in number,Very few, and strangers in it.13 And they wandered from nation to nation,From one kingdom to another people, 14 He allowed no one to oppress them,And He [g]rebuked kings for their sakes, saying, 15 “Do not touch My anointed ones,And do not harm My prophets.”
Proverbs 26:28
8 A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, And a flattering mouth works ruin.
